Ecstatic Dance Retreats
Embercombe, Devon, UK
London’s morning Ecstatic Dance! Our mission is to create a safe, sacred space for people to come and express themselves through movement—regardless of age, gender, background or social status. We aim to make Ecstatic Dance accessible to everyone. We believe dancing is a form of therapy which can help us connect to ourselves and to others. We embrace inclusivity, freedom of expression, openness and positivity. Come and dance with us!
Co-Founder, Ceremony Leader & DJ
Co-founder of Ecstatic Dance UK, Richard has been handed the reigns as community leader in April 2021 to keep on making London dance after Renée’s move to Portugal.
Music and all its variety and beauty has always been his primary passion. His mission? “To get the world out of their heads and into their bodies, even if only for a split second in time, totally in the music, the beats and the present moment.”
Graduate from Dance The Medicine‘s Ecstatic Leadership Training, Richard is now a full-time Ecstatic Dance organiser, facilitator and DJ. He describes his style as “electronica, big beats, neo-classical bliss, emotional & melodic house techno and bass, ambience and peak moment catharsis. Throw in a good pinch of tribal, a sprinkle of drums and world music and we have our very eclectic recipe for one hell of a ride!”.
Co-Founder, Ceremony Leader & DJ
French-Canadian by birth and Londoner for over a decade, Renée is a passion-led serial entrepreneur. She started businesses in the fashion and food industry before founding Ecstatic Dance UK. After encountering Buddhism and establishing a daily meditation practice, she discovered conscious dancing in 2015 through 5 Rhythms. Her vision is to make Ecstatic Dance more accessible and mainstream by hosting welcoming and inclusive events that appeal to a wider audience.
Since her recent move to Lisbon and now teaches the next generation of Ecstatic Dance leaders with Dance The Medicine. She also hosts Ecstatic Dance retreats in the UK and Portugal.
Whether you’re coming for the very first or the hundreth time, Rebecca is the friendly smile who will welcome you with arms wide open!
Alexandra is our talented altar artist.
Jessica is one of our dedicated space angels and helps us prepare the space before the dance.
Cardiff-born, London-based Benjy Kirk started dreaming about becoming a DJ as a mere 10-year-old: “On weekends my best friend and I would transform my living-room into an imaginary warehouse and hold pretend raves for hours on end.” After a good few years of hardcore clubbing, he fell into the conscious dance scene and found his tribe. He has since then been found playing at Morning Gloryville, Club Soda UK and Rumble festival, amongst others. He takes his influences mainly from dance and world music with a particular taste for Latin and African rhythms. With an aim to arouse surprise and delight, we’re in for a unique ecstatic ride!
Co-founder of Ecstatic Dance Riga, Atmo Chaitanya shares his passion for dance and music between his homeland Latvia, Estonia and the UK.
From a shamanic perspective, Atmo is an ‘ecstasy hunter’, seeking higher states of consciousness through dance, tantra, breathwork and meditation. His love affair with conscious dance started 13 years ago when he attended one of London’s 5Rhythms classes and became a regular practitioner ever since.
“As a dancer, I love the sense of authenticity, connection, openness, joy and freedom on the conscious dancefloor. As a DJ, I love witnessing people allowing themselves to be as they are, in each moment. The connections that spontaneously happen, to their bodies, to the floor, to each other, to the group and beyond.”
Mira’s deep commitment as a Movement Medicine teacher is to create ceremonial dance spaces where we can begin to heal the wounds of disconnection from a culture of separation and polarisation. Spaces to gather in community, bring our intentions and dance deeply as we resource ourselves. Journeys to connect us to our life force energy, opening us to connect to the vast reservoir of life’s intelligence. Experiences where we may become a little more conscious of what we are unconscious of. Moving meditations in which we may open our hearts a little wider and be touched by the vibration of compassion – compassion for ourselves, each other, our planet and the interconnected community of life on earth.
Born in Africa with Indian roots and growing up in London, Ajay Rajani thrives in a diverse, multicultural community speaking 5 languages. His spiritual journey began over a decade ago with a strong practice of seated meditation and Vipassana retreats. After discovering moving meditation, he became a 5Rhythms teacher, where he seeks to inspire embodying the moment and allowing your body to be your greatest teacher.
DJ and General Joy Ambassador for the world, Devon-based Pixi Pete started out as a Bedroom DJ on traditional turntables before finding his feet on digital controllers. Mixing in live drumming with world-class beats, he is sure to bring life to any party. He holds space for Dance Medicine in Glastonbury and is always a festival favourite. He describes his style as a ‘unique journey through space, time and genres to give you something new and exciting, as well as something old and nostalgic. And be prepared for a surprise…’
Passionate about playing music from all over the world, old and new, along with her passion to get everyone dancing, Sophie naturally knows how to raise the vibration of any dance floor. She has played as Ecstatic Dance and Dancing Freedom events around the UK and Europe. She draws upon soulful dance music spanning the genres of Deep House, Electro House, Melodic House and Trance (the list goes on).
